Quarterly West magazine has been publishing since 1976, and has featured work by writers such as Allen Ginsberg, Sam Shepard, Carolyn Forche, Rick Moody, George Saunders and Marilyn Hacker. Poems and stories from the magazine have reprinted in numerous Pushcart Prize and Best American anthologies.

Since 1948, The Carolina Quarterly has printed creative writing by established and emerging writers and poets along with penetrating reviews and fascinating features. Past contributors include A. R. Ammons, Doris Betts, T. Coraghessan Boyle, Raymond Carver, Mark Doty, Ha Jin, Joyce Carol Oates, Dave Smith, and Charles Wright.

CALYX Journal is known for discovering important writers, such as Julia Alvarez, Paula Gunn Allen, Olga Broumas, Natalie Goldberg, Barbara Kingsolver, and Sharon Olds, among the more than 3,800 writers published during our first 30 years. CALYX was the first to publish the artwork of Frida Kahlo in color in the U.S. In 1980 CALYX also featured work by the NobelLaureate poet Wislawa Zymborska--the first English translations of her work published in the U.S.

Other Voices is dedicated to publishing diverse, original short stories by authors ranging from literary bestsellers to cutting-edge experimentalists. Writers published in the magazine include Tony Morrison, Richard Ford, Jane Smiley, Steve Almond, Junot Diaz, Peter Ho Davies, Michael Cunningham. Work from Other Voices has been widely anthologized including in the The Best American Short Stories of the Century (2000), edited by John Updike.

Room is Canada’s oldest literary journal in Canada by, for, and about women. Published quarterly by a group of volunteers based in Vancouver, Room showcases fiction, poetry, reviews, art work, interviews and profiles about the female experience. Many of our contributors are at the beginning of their writing careers, looking for an opportunity to get published for the first time. Some later go on to great acclaim.

The Southern Review was established 72 years ago by Robert Penn Warren and Cleanth Brooks at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. The Southern Review has published works by T.S. Eliot, W.H. Auden, Wallace Stevens, Aldous Huxley, Allen Tate, Katherine Anne Porter, Peter Taylor, Eudora Welty, Randall Jarrell, Nelson Algren, and many others.

Pulitzer Prize winning author, Robert Olen Butler, has chosen Annie Weatherwax's story, "The Possibility of Things," as the winner of the 2009 Robert Olen Butler Short Fiction Prize.
